Worship Where You Are, Now Through May
“We know the church is much more than its building,” said Pr. Chad Huebner. “Last year this time, our church building was closed for structural concerns. Our Holy Week services were held in the Carriage House and a joyous Easter worship at the Center for Faith and Life at Luther College.
“This year, to help keep our congregation and community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, FLC suspended in-person worship and gatherings until May 31, 2020. We will worship online—Worship Where You Are—during Holy Week, on Easter Sunday, and through the end of May.”
Sunday Worship
Sunday worship, including the Palm Sunday (April 5) and Easter Sunday (April 12) service, begins at 8:30 a.m. Find the online worship links on the homepage, FirstLutheranDecorah.org, and under the WORSHIP tab. If you miss a service at 8:30, find it archived on its “Worship Where You Are” page.
Holy Week
In addition to Sunday worship, “join us online at noon for Maundy Thursday Taizé worship (April 9) and Good Friday Tenebrae worship (April 10),” invites Pr. Melissa Bills. She gathered resources for individuals and families to use during Holy Week, including a palm frond coloring sheet, and Holy Week devotional book.
Sunday Kids Ministry
Orange Online, FLC’s Sunday kids ministry, begins at 10 a.m. Learn more at facebook.com/FLCKidMin. On the FirstLutheranDecorah.org website, find “Orange Online,” under the GROW tab.
“I’m excited about what’s coming up for Orange Online on Easter Sunday,” said Adrian Walter, FLC director for youth and family ministry. “We are going to be live on Facebook with games that you can play at home, music, and most of all celebrate the resurrection of Jesus! This event will be fun for students–preschool through graduate school–and for those who were students and some time in their life. Some will participate and some will just watch and enjoy–all are welcome.”
Daily Evening Prayer
Pr. Melissa is live-streaming daily evening prayer each weekday at 4:15 p.m. “This brief time of prayer and reflection helps to quiet our mind and heart,” she said. “I intend to continue until we can gather in person as well as spirit.” Find these videos at FirstLutheranDecorah.org/EveningPrayer.
